Notes

Agricultural shows were an important part of rural life in East Anglia. They were an opportunity for farmers to show off the quality of their crops and livestock, a place to demonstrate new equipment and products and a social event for the whole community. In the 1920’s, heavy horses were the mainstay of many farms and the horsemen took great pride in their horses and their presentation at the Shows. This amateur footage shows highlights from the Suffolk show held at Christchurch Park in Ipswich .The film includes classes for young riders on their ponies, a display by the Essex and Suffolk Foxhounds and pedigree cattle in the ring. Shots of the spectators demonstrate the dress code of these events. The Suffolk Show is organised by the Suffolk Agricultural Association which was established in 1831.The Show celebrated its 180th birthday in 2011.
