The Funeral Procession of King George VI

On 6th February 1952 His Majesty, King George VI died at Sandringham House in Norfolk. He was 56. His body rested at St Mary Magdalene Church and this short sequence shows the coffin being taken by gun carriage along the road to Wolferton Station. It is accompanied by Grenadier Guards. Crowds of mourners line the procession. At Wolferton Station an immaculate train steams away from the station platform taking the late king's body to Westminster, where he was to lie in state until burial on 15th February. He was succeeded by his daughter Elizabeth, our current queen.
